ALL ABOUT A GIRL; MY BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

The older I get and the more comfortable I become in my own skin, the more I tend to rely on my own personal style and advice than that of celebs and magazines. Don’t get me wrong, I’m slowly becoming addicted to Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style (I learn some much about how to shop from this man. I love me some Tim!). And though we could learn alot from one another, I think that every woman should develop her own that works for her.  Here are some of my must-haves:

Make-Up: I tend to go for the natural look; a look that can be easily transformed from day to night with very little additional application. I keep a nude lip, either with a pinkish-color lip gloss or just clear lip gloss. And of course my favorite make-up line is MAC (see their website link on the right).

Hair: My hair is simple. I keep it short and tapered in the back and on the sides. Weave has never been for me. I tried both braids and tracks but with my texture of hair, braids or tracks dont tend to last long. I love short funky cuts! I keep my hair shampooed, conditioned and moisturized with Dr. Miracle’s products in between hair appointments.

Skin Care: Some essentials for me since I have combo-skin (oily and dry) are Noxzema facial wash followed up with the Aveeno Daily Moisturizer. The Aveeno has some acne-fighting ingredients in the moisturizer. But before applying the moisturizer, I must use an astringent. Either the Noxzema brand or some good ole Witch Hazel.

Body Scents: I change my perfume fragrances like I change my mood. My favorite at this moment is Jean Paul Gaultier for Women. I love the men’s cologne much better but this will do. I also have Gaultier 2, which is supposed to be unisex. I rarely use it though.  The best soap for me is Dove. Caress is a close second but its so fragrant and that’s not good for the Lucy. When washing “down there”, be mindful that she is sensitive, so to avoid bacterial/yeast infections, don’t use fragrant or fruity anything. And contrary to popular belief, DOUCHING IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU! Most doctors and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) suggest that women steer clear of douching. All healthy Lucys contain some bacteria and other organisms called the vaginal flora. The normal acidity of the Lucy keeps the amount of bacteria down. But douching can change this delicate balance. This may make a woman more prone to vaginal infections (see womenshealth.gov).

Apparel: I never been a labels person. I go for clothes that look good, quality made, and that are easy on my budget. I love earth tones with splashes of red and deep purples throughout my wardrobe, just to keep it from getting boring. But those loud colors that were “in” this year, HATED IT!! All those adult women in hot pink, lime green, and big-bird yellow made me sick! Leave that for the teens. Its nothing worse than seeing a woman trying to re-live her youth. I liked some of the things but the plastic bracelets and earrings we just too much for my taste. I also adore shoes. Again, for me, labels aren’t that important. Virtually any stiletto, peek-toe, and 3-inch heel boot has my attention!! And some plain white kicks that I can run around in. My everyday purse has to be the Coach brand, but for evening, I will typically grab a simple clutch. I keep my other accessories, like jewelry, light and to the point.

  • i dont really have any specifics in terms of make-up and scents. i sell avon so i kinda just pick the cute stuff and try them out. for apparel though, i choose stuff that make me feel pretty. those usually are clothes that accentuate my fave body parts … my boobies. so i love anything that shows them up :)

  • I’m not an everyday make up kinda gal…but when I do wear it, it’s usually MAC…I only use eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss w/ a lil bit of blush… No foundation

I do my own hair now so I have complete creative control :) I’ve also gotten into the habit of doing my own mani and pedi.

As far as clothes, I like to think I have a style all of my own. I’m not into labels either, and I feel that the person make the clothes not the other way around so I could be the only girl in a party full of guys w/ sneakers on and I’ll still rock w/ some of the best lol ;)

Also I have lots of perfume and I use different scents depending on my mood or my look that day.
